It was refreshing to see Hollywood A-listers finally take some fashion risks at this year's 18th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (a.k.a the SAGS).

The fashion winners of the night were:

Zoe Saldana

A whiter shade of pale was a big fashion trend at this year's SAGS. Zoe followed suit in a fashion-forward white ensemble by Givenchy. While the beaded sheer top with tank bodice and long skirt hid her fab figure, Zoe looked elegant and sophisticated. It's not always about exposing as much flesh as possible on the red-carpet.

Tilda Swinton

Tilda also joined the muted-toned brigade this year in a simple, pleated white jersey dress by Lanvin. Her Grecian styled look was a lot more feminine and less avant-guarde than usual. Shoes were also by Lanvin and the amazing 1940's gold and diamond cuff was care of Fred Leighton jewels.

Emma Stone

Hollywood is crazy for this young actress and for a good reason. The stunning red head looked incredible in a strapless black Alexander McQueen dress that was perfectly age appropriate for her. The dress was heavily beaded at the bodice but not overpoweringly so. The flared skirt was hemmed mid-calf and highlighted a super cute pair of black peep-toe shoes also by Alexander McQueen. The bag was from the House of McQueen while the fab gold earrings were courtesy of Tiffany and Co Jewels.

Rose Byrne

The gorgeous, petite Australian actress took the biggest risk on the red carpet in a tailored, embellished cream jumpsuit by Elie Saab. Donning a jumpsuit at a glitzy awards ceremony usually equates to instant fashion death on the red carpet but Rose rocked the look and looked hot! Rose looked effortless and immaculate with beautiful, clean make up, perfect accessories and her hair in a chic bob that was very Anna Wintour (American Vogue Editor).

Angelina Jolie

Angelina is pure Hollywood royalty and easily blew everyone away in a super sexy black metallic jersey gown by Jenny Packham. She also had the hottest accessories: to-die-for vintage gold and onyx hoop earrings and bangle from the House of Lavande and of course Brad Pitt on her arm all night.

Michelle Williams

Michelle is a fan of the quirky and the cute which often doesn't translate particularly well on the red carpet. However, this time Michelle nailed it in a simple bright-red Valentino gown that featured an aysmmyetric neckline and lace cap sleeves.

And the fashion losers were:

Shailene Woodley

Not sure exactly who this actress is but she's only 20 years old so why is she wearing her nana's favourite floral frock? She looks pretty enough but the whole look is very aging and frumpy.

Tina Fey

Tina tries really hard but never nails it on the red carpet. Sure, she looks elegant enough but the vintage black and silver Versace dress doesn't really do anything for her. There's no "wow-factor" it's just so bland.

Lea Michele

Limelight hog, Lea Michele loves to show off her best assets and never fails to flaunt them. Lea wore a seriously sexy silver Versace dress that featured a body-con bodice and a slit that went right up to the top of her thigh. While she did look hot, it was all a bit much and it really veered on the side of tacky. Great hair and accessories though with silver shoes by Casadei, Fendi bag and jewels from Lorraine Schwartz.

Kristen Wiig

The Bridesmaids star looked stunning in a grey halternecked gown by Balenciaga. Her hair and make up was perfect and so was her beautiful clutch and shoes also by Balenciaga. Unfortunately her entire look was ruined by the most hideous chocker necklace. It was way too heavy and was just totally wrong!

This year, apart from the many pale and muted toned dresses and the perennially classic black gowns, we also saw lots of bold colour.

Emily Blunt looked amazing in a bright green strapless number by Oscar de la Renta.

Julie Bowen simply popped on the red carpet in an elegant purple gown by Temperley.

Sofia Vergara was the ultimate femme-fatale in a strapless crimson figure-hugging dress by Marchesa with jewellery from Lorraine Schwartz.

Overall at the SAGS this year, there was definitely a lot more more joy than woe on the red carpet.

Next up, the Oscars!

See you all next week!
