Another year, another Academy Awards!
And this time around everyone played it safe on the red carpet. It looked like simple sophistication was the name of the game on the big night. While we didn't see any train wrecks (which we usually enjoy!), nothing really stood out either.
There were, however, some dominating themes. There were lots of purple and lilac dresses. Red was another popular choice, as was nude and champagne toned dresses. Hair was either simply done up in a bun, left flowing in Veronica Lake-style waves or on the other side of the spectrum, "undone" and slightly messy looking. The simple, unfussy dress styles worn by the stars allowed for some amazing high impact costume jewellery to finish the look with maximum razzle and dazzle.
Scarlett Johansson
Wow! Scarlett looked gorgeous. We loved her violet stretch-lace
Dolce & Gabanna dress that featured a racy exposed back and
also a slight train. Beautiful, sexy tousled hair and stunning
jewellery. We loved the Anna Hu ring.
Amy Adams
Amy looked beautiful with soft 1940s style femme fatale hair and
stunning make up. The sparkly blue L'Wren Scott dress had a
Shanghai Lil feel to it with a sexy side split. We also loved the
incredible Cartier necklace and bracelet.
Anne Hathaway
Co-host of the Oscars, Anne was styled by Rachael Zoe and had many
costume changes throughout the night. The most stunning of the
night was the red strapless Valentino she wore on the red carpet
worn with Tiffany & Co jewels. This is what Hollywood's all
about.
Sandra Bullock
Sandra was another who chose to take the simple, yet chic, path.
Sandra looked immaculate in a red strapless Vera Wang dress and
Harry Winston jewels. It was a little predictable though.
Michelle Williams
Boho Michelle looked sweet in the sheath-like ivory beaded Chanel
dress. It was simple and had a '60s twist. Michelle's pixie gamine
hair really suits her, too. And we loved her diamond sunflower stud
earrings and ring all care of Harry Winstone jewels, thank you very
much!
Mila Kunis
Mila looked innocent and demure in a lavender chiffon Elle Saab
Haute Couture gown that featured lace tiering and underwear
details. Neil Lange diamonds and a Bottega Veneta clutch bag
completed her look.
Natalie Portman
Best Actress winner Natalie looked absolutely stunning in a
plum-coloured Rodarte dress. We loved her soft hair pulled to one
side and also her amazing Tiffany & Co jewels. This girl can do
no wrong.
Jennifer Lawrence
We really liked the simple red tank dress from Calvin Klein that
Jennifer wore. It was a perfect choice for her. Her hair was
low-key but maybe too much so. We also think she should have amped
up the jewellery a bit more.
Halle Berry
The Marchesa strapless nude-coloured dress with the frothy train
suited Halle. It screamed "movie-star".
Jennifer Hudson
The vibrant orange colour of the Atelier Versace dress really
suited Jennifer, but that was about it. The fabric looked cheap and
nasty and what was going on with her breasts? Not a good look! We
also thought that her hair looked crazy. It was way too much!
Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwynneth looked incredible in a silver column-like Calvin Klein
sheath that was custom-made for her. Her hair was perfect as usual.
We also adored the amazing Louis Vuitton jewellery she decked
herself out in.
Hailee Steinfeld
Cute as a button Hailee looked so pretty in a ballerina-inspired
pale coloured Marchesa dress with a ballerina bun to match. The
Salvatore Ferragamo shoes and clutch worked nicely with the whole
look.
Penelope Cruz
Penelope suits the colour red, however this wasn't one of her best
looks on the red carpet. We just weren't fans of the L'Wren Scott
dress she chose.
All in all, some beautiful looks were seen on the red carpet at the Oscars. We've certainly gained some inspiration from it all and we've really enjoyed bringing you all the hits and misses from the awards season. We're already looking forward to next year!
See you all next week!
