This week, MAC cosmetics unveiled their new collection "A Tartan Tale" to a bunch of die-hard online beauty editors and hard-core make-up junkies.
Naturally, Style Blog was there in full force. We love it when a new collection comes out. It's so exciting as we can't wait to try out all the new products and get inspired.
MAC's "A Tartan Tale" happily corresponds with the upcoming holiday season, and with Christmas just around the corner, we can already envisage many a yuletide stocking (hopefully our own included) being stuffed to the max with something fabulous from MAC's new collection.
And who doesn't love a bit of tartan?
Aside from Mad Mel's Braveheart, we think of Vivienne Westwood, punk-rock's The Sex Pistols, and who can forget the late, great Alexander McQueen who had quite the penchant for the noble Scottish print. Tartan is hot and has always been tres cool (ok, we'll just forget that time when the Bay City Rollers had their moment back in the early 1970s, yikes.)
The overall look of the collection is celebrated in its red-haired muse of the season: A beautiful, ethereal, porcelain-skinned lass, bedecked in the fierce tartan of her clan.
Obviously, if you happen to have perfect, unblemished alabaster skin you will instantly nail this look.
There are two takes on the look for "A Tartan Tale".
The first one is the soft romantic version with swept brows, rosy cheeks and an over-drawn bright fuchsia mouth softened back with just a pure wash of colour over the eyes.
The alternative version is a harder and edgier punk-rock look with strong contoured and kohled eyes set off with fuchsia pink cheeks.
MAC's own make up artist extraordinaire, Amber D, excitedly took us through the looks and showed us how to achieve it with certain little tricks of the trade.
A Tartan Tale products:
We adore the cute tartan packaging and the products themselves are just as fab. The power of plaid is strong. The little brush bags are to-die-for and the bags themselves are good enough to use by themselves.
We also love the lip, eye and face kits. Beware though, if you want to buy them for your nearest and dearest, you will find it extremely difficult to actually part with them. Particularly great are "6 Beauties Play It Cool" and "6 Dashing Lassie" eye shadow palettes.
The "Triumphant" blush palette is a must-have as are the "5 Sassy Neutral Lassies" lip glasses that come in a super cute tartan tin.
Be in quick though! This collection is going to be snapped up like hotcakes by all those right canny lasses out there!
See you all next week!
