As we head into winter, the northern hemisphere is heading towards summer. This week, Style Blog attended a special Mother's Day night at Louis Vuitton and checked out all the fabulous new season spring/summer 2011 collections.

This season Louis Vuitton designer Marc Jacobs went all out with a wonderful collection that exudes a decadent orientalism, a mix of Chinoiserie and high glamour.

Jacobs was inspired by the early work of the first Japanese designers to show their collections in Paris back in the 1970s, namely Kansai Yamamoto and Kenzo Takada.

"Of course these are my references. I love the exoticism, the way Paris embraced Orientalism& I wanted total camp glamour, clothes for the extrovert, Chinoiserie's, the 1920s, everything that Paris stands for," Jacobs said after his collection was shown on the closing day of the Paris prêt-a-porter season.

The show was quite the spectacle and very over the top!

Sadly, some poor stuffed tigers were used as props along with real tiger skins to convey a sumptuous decadent feeling. Animal rights group PETA wouldn't have been too happy.

Model Kirsten McMenamy was the muse of the collection, strutting around in a pair of black satin pants with her torso body-painted black and white like a tiger.

This season it's all about colour, colour, colour and details such as the brightly coloured sequinned obis, elaborate embroidery and the crystal tassels hanging off kimonos are like "YSL (Yves Saint Laurent) on acid".

There is also an art deco feeling to the collection, with geometric blocks placed together with contrasting colours.

The "1920s in the East" features everywhere from orchid to panda prints, mandarin collars, jumpsuits, kaftans and cheongsam dresses.

The brightly coloured patent leather bags with python trims are incredible (hopefully they are faux snake but we doubt it).

Even the shoes have an exotic flavour to them with giraffe-shaped heels!

It's not hard to find the perfect gift for mum at Louis Vuitton and splurge on yourself too.

Happy Mother's Day to all you mums out there, and see you all next week!
