When music industry stars attend awards ceremonies, it's inevitable some pretty outrageous get-ups are going to be seen on the red carpet.
Here's our verdict on all the crazy outfits worn by rock'n'roll royalty at this year's Grammys and Brit Awards.
Yet again, the Americans easily beat their British counterparts in this department. They really know how to put on a good show and get everyone's attention!
The Grammys
Without a doubt, the most dramatic moment on the red carpet was when Lady Gaga turned up in a prehistoric egg on top of a stretcher carried by her minions. Apparently Gaga had been in chrysalis form in her egg for hours! While it's definitely not a look that will catch on, we applaud her for setting the nutty tone of the night!
Speaking of looks that will never make it to the high street, what about mad Nicki Minaj and her ludicrous "l'animale" ensemble care of Givenchy? As for her hair - was she auditioning for a part in a crack addict's version of The Lion King?
Katy Perry was obviously having a Victoria's Secret moment when she turned up in an OTT Armani Prive gown that featured a long gossamer train and giant angel wings. It was like a bad hen's night ensemble. (But we still love you, Katy!)
What planet was Rihanna on? It was obvious that Ri-Ri wanted to upstage everyone in an extremely risque and obscene Jean-Paul Gaultier dress. She did just that but not in a good way! The dress looked like a series of white over-sized garter belts all stringed together. It left nothing to the imagination and we don't think that having your nether regions all out in full glory is ever a particularly classy look!
Reality TV star Kim Kardashian was another gal that left no mystery as to what lay beneath her bronze/gold Kaufman Franco dress. The dress was tres J-Lo from back in the day. Remember the infamous plunging green number she wore to the Grammys back in 2002? She looked slutty, but fab all the same.
Miley Cyrus also opted for a rather "ho"-like look in a floor-length be-sparkled animal print dress from Roberto Cavalli. Its main feature was Miley's breasts tackily popping out of the side of the dress.
Continuing the flesh on show theme, J-Lo got back to her roots and wore an obscenely short sparkly silver mini dress by Pucci. It looked like a disco ball and we loved it on her! We also lusted after her sky-high spiky Christian Louboutin heels.
Heidi Klum was another that went for the sparkle factor in a long, gold Julian Macdonald dress. While we didn't really like her hair that much and her partner Seal looked like a pimp, Heidi still dazzled on the red carpet.
Jennifer Hudson has become a mere shadow of her former self! Jen is looking super hot and svelte these days. The flowing, navy Versace dress featured a corset-like bustier and it looked amazing on her. The dress was a perfect choice for the Grammys. Did we also mention our complete shoe envy at her black strappy Louboutins?
Looks like Nicole Kidman tried to break out of the boring red carpet rut she's been in recently. We thought the colouring of her strappy fish-tailed Jean-Paul Gaultier dress was flattering on her and her hair looked gorgeous.
The Brit Awards
Meanwhile, back over the other side of the Atlantic, Cheryl Cole wowed them in a backless, black sequinned, floor length Stella McCartney number with a racy split that went right up to her thigh. Some criticised the look saying that it made her look a bit "chubby". They also though she had far too much make up on. We disagreed and thought Cheryl looked beautiful. We didn't like the mullet hair-do she was rocking though!
We don't actually know who Jessie J and Eliza Doolittle are but they stood out in their atrocious dress choices on the night. Eliza wore the weirdest frock ever, that had a multi-coloured fringe of skunk tails hanging down her derriere. Meanwhile, poor old Jessie looked like she was bound for NeverNeverland in a bizarre forest green Vivienne Westwood ensemble and scary vampish make up.
As for Caprice, all we can say is "Quel Tragedy"!
The most colourful on the night by a mile was Rihanna colour-blocking her little heart out! On the red carpet Ri-Ri wore Christian Dior Haute Couture: A purple bodice tucked into a giant blue tulle puffball/crinoline skirt cinched in at the waist with a huge ribbon.
For her performance there were three more costume changes: A sexy black corset number (a perfect choice for her new song S&M) , a racy red mini-dress that featured giant rosettes plus a matching "Little Miss Riding Hood" cape and also a strapless rose-covered ball gown from Oscar de la Renta.
Thank God for all the crazy musicians! We're already looking forward to seeing what insane outfits they will all be wearing next year!
See you all next week!
