Holidays are the time when you really let your hair down.

This usually means your usual grooming standards go out the door, as well as your normal dress sense.

There is no need to bother about doing your hair, let alone faffing around with blow-dryers and ghds. Your make up routine will be a quick one i.e. that of the "sans" make up look. It involves slapping on a bit of sunblock and you're good to go!

As for your clothes, the tailored chic aesthetic has been replaced with a laid-back, easy and relaxed one, based on soft cotton tees, shorts and summer dresses you can just throw on without a care.

While one half of Style Blog spent his holidays up north in a beautifully immaculate beach-front pad without a modern convenience to be spared, the other half spent her time roughing it at a camping site. Or "slumming it", you could say.

The first lesson learned was pack light.

That huge bag packed with "holiday looks" for each day was not needed at all. There was one look that pretty much worked every day, which was: The bikini with or without a t-shirt thrown over the top. When the wind picked up, the obligatory sweatshirt/hoody and the comfy track pants were donned. Footwear was jandals only and headwear was the nifty straw fedora that worked a treat.

That was it!

Lesson number two: That enormous toiletry bag stuffed with every make up product under the sun should be left at home. Why? There are no mirrors where you are going, let alone that much running hot water so why bother!

Do you really need all that bronzer, face highlighter illuminator and smokey eye shadow palette?

Why bring fake tanning cream when you will be baking yourself brown everyday a la George Hamilton? Sometimes fashionistas do the craziest things!

Ok, admittedly some standards still needed to be maintained and lashes were still secretly curled with the beloved, trusty eyelash curlers and pumped up with a bit of waterproof mascara.

As for the hair, the sexy, tousled beach-babe look was taken on and what a cheap alternative to scrunching in all those expensive sea-salt sprays when you can go douse your head in the surf and achieve the same effect!

Campsite looks spotted:

-The soft cotton sarong wrapped around the two-piece or togs is still very popular. This can be done well when you choose a great print. Why not try some beautiful Pacific Island influenced prints? Unfortunately the prints seen down at the campsite were more 80s inspired (and not in a good way). We're talking about lurid Ken Done numbers with giant seahorses and starfish etc. Nice!

- Another popular look was wearing white, which always looks great on tanned bodies - but can easily get dirty. White cotton sun frocks look so summery and fresh. However, we're not so sure about those buxom ladies in tight, white crop tops teamed with low-slung, white, wide-leg linen drawstring pants when you have an excessively over-developed derriere that keeps bursting out of them in full glory.

All in all though, camping can be really fun and it's not about what you look like, which is refreshing for a change. It's all about relaxing and being yourself and enjoying spending quality time with your fellow camping buddies.

As for "glamping", this is really about how you make it all liveable and less primitive. True necessities of life must always be around even when roughing it!

- Bring delicious, good food (no baked beans thanks very much!)

- Pack the chilly bin with copious bottles of great champagne (to be drunk in flute glasses always) and also your fave pinots and savs at the ready!

- Have a great, big roomy deluxe tent with the best airbed and sleeping bags.

- Bring great books to read and your fave games.

- Make sure you go camping with an experienced camper. Someone like MacGyver would be tres handy!

Good luck out there in the wilderness and happy "glamping". Hi-de-hi from Style Blog!
