Style Blog checked out all the red carpet looks from the 68th Annual Golden Globes Awards this week. Here's our verdict on who nailed it and who didn't!

We loved:

Claire Danes
Claire was a vision of simplicity and chicness in her pink silk Calvin Klein halter-necked dress. Claire didn't look over-done and her choice was age appropriate. Her hair and the Fred Leighton jewels she wore were perfect, as was her hot "man-candy" in tow!

Sandra Bullock
Sandra looked beautiful in a romantic, boho, one-shouldered pale pink beaded Jenny Packham dress that had a vintage look about it. We loved her accessories and also the long Chrissie Hynde-looking '60s fringe. Sandy looked like a cool '60s muse. Very Anita Pallenburg or Marianne Faithful. We know many didn't get her look, but we loved it all the same.

Angelina Jolie
Angelina looked ridiculously beautiful in a sparkling emerald green, long-sleeved Atelier Versace dress. Her frock also had a vintage feel to it. We also loved her hair and make up. Perfection.

Julianne Moore
Julianne looked incredible in a pink one-shouldered Lanvin dress complemented by Bulgari jewels. This woman always looks immaculate.

We liked:

Anne Hathaway
Anne Hathaway looked stunning in a backless, sparkly amber coloured dress that gave "deep shoulder pad action" by Giorgio Armani Prive. Krystal Carrington would have loved this dress! Anne's hair was beautiful and so too the Van Cleef & Arpels jewels. The beigy colour of the dress was a bit blah though and didn't pop on the red carpet.

Natalie Portman
Pregnant golden girl Natalie Portman scooped up the award for best dramatic leading actress for her performance in Black Swan. It truly was Nat's night to shine. Hollywood's darling wore an empire-line, pale pink Viktor & Rolf gown that featured a red crystal beaded rose on the bodice. The look was matched up with a red clutch bag and Tiffany & Co jewels. While we love Natalie and thought she looked lovely, we weren't totally blown away by her look.

We were bored with:

Megan Fox
Megan looked immaculate enough in a blush-toned Armani Privee dress that showed off her incredible body, but it was all a bit a bit bland on her. We loved the Brian Atwood shoes, mind! It's such a shame that Megan is looking more and more alien-like thanks to her alleged plastic surgery addiction. Megs was a naturally pretty girl before, but now she is looking more like the long lost daughter of Jocelyn Wildenstein.

Jennifer Lopez
J Lo looked nice enough and always pulls herself together well. We loved her hair in a sleek ponytail too. Some believe the pale coloured Zuhair Murad gown that featured a sheer tulle capelet made her look a bit matronly, but we still think she looked stunning. We would have preferred seeing our fave diva in something with a bit more "look at me"!

Lea Michele
Sure, Lea looked pretty but we weren't really fans of the bubble-gum "prom-night" Oscar de la Renta frock she wore. There was just too much going on with all the folds and frilly flounces, it was confusing. Lea's hair was also far too messy for this overly fussy look.

Nicole Kidman
There was nothing to fault Nic in the cream, simple one-shouldered Prada gown with the bow detail, but it just simply didn't rock our world. Come on Nicole, we know you can do better than this!

We liked because it's just "so fashion":

Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett always looks beautiful and she looked sophisticated in this v-necked cream beaded Elie Saab dress that featured fluttery sleeves. We would have preferred her hair down as the up-do made her look a lot older than her years.

Leighton Meester (from Gossip Girl)
Leighton wore a nude coloured high-necked beaded dress by Burberry Prorsum, with long-sleeves being a fashion forward look favoured by quite a few that night. We thought she looked beautiful. We are coveting her Jimmy Choo shoes and super cute Louis Vuitton bag!

Tilda Swinton
Ahhhh Tilda! She never fails to stir it all up! Tilda is a fashionista and a complete non-conformist. Hollywood and the general public just don't get her one bit! We love Tilda because she takes risks and rebels. Tilda wore a shirt and a skirt by Jil Sander and topped it off with Fred Leighton jewels.

We didn't "get it":

Michelle Williams
Michelle looks beautiful as always and we love her pixie/gamine Mia Farrow hair. But as for the dress! Michelle wore a daisy-printed Valentino dress that had flounces down the side and shell embellishments on the straps. Michelle was obviously going for a '60s bohemian look but it wasn't appropriate for the red carpet and the terrible nude colour washed her out!

On the edge of crass:

January Jones
She looked beautiful in a sexy red Versace dress that featured a cut-out at the bodice which was pretty racy and probably provided far too much flesh on show. Top marks for her elegant hair, make up and toned back accessories though!

Plain crass:

Christina Aguilera
Christina's black lace/nude fish-tailed dress looked tacky on her, especially with her breasts popping out the side and front. She should stick to her "Candyman" retro '40s look as it suits her far better.

Sofia Vergara
The red Vera Wang number was just too much on Sofia! It looked more like something Dolly wore in "Best Little Whorehouse In Texas" Yikes!

Inappropriate:

Heidi Klum
The tribal-looking Marc Jacobs dress on Heidi would have been better off worn at a BBQ. It also looks like poor Heidi was having a bad hair day too!

Halle Berry:
Halle is such a beautiful woman and we love her when her hair is cut short like this. She wore a black, vintage Nina Ricci bustier dress that had a mini skirt and also a long tulle train. It was very Stephanie Seymore circa the early-mid '90s. While it looked sexy, it was also rather tacky. It would be a better choice to wear at the Grammys.

Best Scarlett O'Hara impression:

Catherine Zeta-Jones
CZJ looked very dramatic in a huge strapless ball gown by Monique L'Hullier and festooned with Van Cleef and Arpels jewellery. The dark green colour of the dress looked incredible on her. It was very old-school Hollywood glamour and we imagined her at the top of the staircase in the movie Gone With The Wind.

OTT:

Christina Hendricks
Everything about Christina is OTT - the insane huge red hair, the over-inflated bust and lips, the larger than life va-va voom hour-glass bod! Wearing a one-shouldered flame-red Romona Keveza gown that featured a giant flower on the shoulder, Christina looked more like a drag queen. The dress itself was beautiful, but the massive flower was total overkill. Christina's dress reminded us of the dress that we had Bernadine Oliver-Kerby wear at the Qantas Media Awards last year, except Christina's version was on crack!

Complete madness:

Helena Bonham-Carter
Helena is completely bonkers! And we love her for this! Helena didn't fail to shock us in a crazy tulle number by Vivienne Westwood with mismatched shoes (one green and the other one red) and an insane hair-do to boot!

The Man-Candy:

Johnny Depp looked ridiculously hot In Ralph Lauren Black Label. Wow! We LOVE him so much!

Mark Wahlberg is a GOD! He is unbelievably cute (even with the "man fur").

Jake Gyllenhall looked incredibly handsome in Burberry.

Versace-wearing Brad Pitt looked pretty cute too, although we hated his sunglasses that made him look like a sleazy cocaine dealer.

Robert Pattinson looked sultry in Gucci.

Hottie Zac Efron has a sexy new military-looking haircut. Boy is he vain though!

Prada-clad Robert Downey Jr is always super cute and we love his mischievousness nature.

John Hamm (from Mad Men) and James Franco both looked smokingly hot on the night.

Wearing Dolce & Gabbana, Christian Bale didn't actually look so great. We hated his long hair and the "Grizzly Adams" full beard. We prefer him in his "American Psycho" look!

The Wrap Up:

Some chose to wear black on the night and sure, it's simple and chic, but it's so boring and dull on the red carpet.

On the other hand, emerald greens, reds, pinks and neutral nudes ruled the roost this year and there were lots of refreshing fashion risk-takers stamping their own individuality on the red carpet.

Hooray for awards season!
