Now that the party season is upon us, it's time to start getting ready for it!

A good idea is to have some great party looks organised beforehand. Ok, while it sounds a bit "girly-swot", trust us, it will save you from the dreaded "I have nothing to wear!" scenario that befalls many of us around this festive time of the year.

As we get closer to Christmas, the days just seem to be hurtling into each other and it all becomes a bit of a blur. Time is of the essence and nobody has the time to spend hours trying to find something to wear.

The best advice is to go through your wardrobe now and check that you have all the basics, and if you don't - go and get them!

If you are on a budget (and who isn't at this time of year) don't worry, you won't have to spend a fortune. Just hit the chain stores for cheap and cheerful alternatives.

Your party perfect wardrobe checklist:

1) A little black dress. Perfect to accessorise up a storm with. You can dress it up or down.

2) A brightly coloured dress. Summer is all about colour. Tone it back with neutral accessories.

3) A fabulous maxi-dress that will make you look like a '70s icon and also hides a multitude of sins (!)

4) At least one "show-stopper" dress designed to blow everyone away. Have some fun here and be a bit outrageous!

5) Soft, drapy pants that you can glam up with heels and a silky tee.

6) A great pair of jeans and/or pants that make your legs and derriere look amazing!

7) A selection of dressy, summery tops to go with the jeans. Choose tops that flatter your own body shape and stay away from trends that just aren't for you.

8) The following shoes are must haves:

-The sky-high, black patent pump
- A nude-coloured shoe
- Neutral toned or black wedges (so comfy too!)
- Strappy black stilettos (the higher the better!)
- A bronze, gold or metallic strappy shoe
- A great pair of glam sandals

9) A selection of bags that will work with anything, black, tan and gold. Also have some fun, quirky bags that can spice up the little black dress outfit.

10) Be a complete bower-bird and have loads of great accessories at the ready. For a unique, one-of-a-kind look, get these for a song on TradeMe or at any vintage/retro markets.

Once you have your staples, start putting some looks together and working out what works with what and what doesn't. Make a mental note of this and come the next party, getting ready will be a breeze!

Enjoy and see you all next week!
