This week you may have spotted co-host of TVNZ's Breakfast, Petra Bagust looking particularly gorgeous on the show. Petra was wearing pieces from Cybele's latest collection.
Cybele's winter 2011 collection is highly covetable and even better; it's available in stores now.
Yet again, designer Cybele Wiren has created another incredible collection of highly wearable and beautiful clothes.
Cybele's background in art and design is obvious with her passion for print featuring heavily through out each and every collection.
Cybele designs and prints her own innovative fabrics and this is what makes her work in the fashion industry so unique and instantly recognisable.
The designer has a penchant for birds and in particular wings because of their symmetry, texture and movement. Abstract prints with a reference to nature give Cybele's clothes a distinctively strong and fiercely graphic edge.
Cybele's garments have a wonderful 3-Dimensional quality to them. She uses clever cutting techniques and dramatic drapery. Her clothes are best seen actually on the body, particularly when the body is in motion as opposed to hanging dormant on a clothes hanger.
While the label is feminine it is never cutesy or twee. Garments are elegant and yet always directional. Softness is toughened up by harder details such as a soft floaty silk dress cinched in at the waist with a patent leather dominatrix style lace-up corset type belt.
There is a certain mediaeval and gypsy-like feeling to Cybele's designs: mysterious hoods, capes, giant batwing shapes, tunics, handkerchief hems, fringing and lots of fluid drapery conjure up images of a very cool Joan of Arc!
Fabrics this season are beautiful silks, chiffons and georgettes along with sumptuous velvets in rich gold bronze and smoky quartz grey tones.
In amongst the perennial black and charcoals, there are injections of colour; burnt orange, mustard yellow, jade green, deep purple and also shocking pink.
Check out Cybele's current collection at www.cybele.co.nz or if you're in Auckland pop along to her store located at 62 Ponsonby Road, Ponsonby.
See you all next week!
