As seen again at this year's BAFTA Awards, the British always prefer to keep it safe when it comes to dressing up for red carpet award events.
Compared to the razzamatazz of their Hollywood counterparts, a "reserved elegance" is often the underlying theme at these awards. Actually, "boring" is sometimes a better word for it.
Unless you happen to be Jordan, no one at the BAFTAs tries to be outrageous or crazy. The Brits are far too cool and stiff upper-lipped to put up with any of these types of shenanigans!
Where was Tilda Swinton when we needed her? At least she always makes a statement on the red carpet (one that only the fashion-forward minded pack would "get" though.)
Still, there were some tres elegant looks that were seen on the night...
Bafta looks which floated Style Blog's boat
Kate Winslet
We loved the sexy tousled hair, such a refreshing change from her
immaculately coiffed do's. We also loved the sexed-up, vampy black
Stella McCartney dress with lace cut-out panels. Kate is one hot
tamale!
Carey Mulligan
Carey's pixie hair cut is so cute! We loved the shape of the
Vionnet dress she wore but weren't that keen on the print.
Claire Danes
Her ivory Burberry gown was gorgeous but the shoes were a bit too
"twee" for us.
Tom Ford
God he's hot! Tom is the epitome of class and looked so dashing in
a shawl collared tux of his own design. Perfect.
Vanessa Redgrave and Joely Richardson
These ladies define elegance and chic dressing. They looked
immaculate in dresses designed by Catherine Walker.
Kristin Scott Thomas
In a beautiful black dress by Louis Vuitton, Kristin was
understated and pure elegance.
Bonnie Wright
She looked very pretty in a Prada dress but the fabric was a bit
unforgiving, especially around the tum-tum area. Spanx anyone?
Looks that didn't fare so well in our eyes:
Rebecca Hall
While the trend is a focus on shoulders, this was just too much.
It's obviously homage to Star Trek and Dr Spock.
Trudy Styler
The dress by Trudy's buddy, Victoria Beckham, is cute.
Unfortunately, Trudy just looks tragic. Her "feather" inspired hair
is reminiscent of Emma Chambers circa Notting Hill or an over
processed Baby Spice gone wrong.
Separated at birth perchance?
Audrey Tatou
We love Audrey, but the '80s inspired pink Lanvin dress swamped her
small frame and just looked like she was trying too hard.
Kirsten Stewart
What's up with the scowl? The Twilight star looked stroppy and
needs to stop slouching. The '90s hair-do worked against her and
she ended up looking like trailer park trash.
All up there were some beautiful looks seen this year at the BAFTAS but it was all a bit dull for us. We can't wait for the Oscars though and the countdown to high glamour is on!
