Kiwi actor Karl Urban says the latest Star Trek film, in which he plays Doctor 'Bones' McCoy is "phenomenal".
"There's more action, more humour, more action, the stakes are raised," he told TV ONE's Seven Sharp.
The actor, originally from Wellington but now living in Auckland, says if the first instalment of the latest Star Trek films was about establishing characters, then this second one is about deepening the relationships.
Star Trek: Into Darkness opened in New Zealand today and has already been getting positive world-wide reviews.
"It's interesting to see the feedback and how it lands," Urban said.
"We had a good time, and I think you can see that on the screen."
Urban is best known for playing Eomer in the second and third instalments of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
