New Zealand group Smashproof have broken a 23-year-old record, after spending 10 weeks at No 1 on the New Zealand singles chart.

Their hit single, Brother, has spent 10 weeks in a row at No 1 - the longest consecutive run at the top by a local act, NZ Top 40 Singles Chart results showed.

The record was previously held by the America's Cup-themed single, Sailing Away, by All Of Us, which spent nine consecutive weeks at the top in 1986.

Smashproof comprise South Aucklanders, Deach, Tyree and Young Sid.
