Shania Twain has tied the knot with Swiss businessman Frederic
Thiebaud in Puerto Rico on New Year's Day, just weeks after their
engagement was announced.
Her representative told People magazine: "They were married at sunset in Rincon, Puerto Rico, in front of 40 of their closest family and friends."
Previously, following news of their engagement, Shania took to her blog to express her delight and said she was excited about her future.
She said: "2010 is leaving me with a renewed faith in love and commitment. Talking about love, I am excited to share some personal news with you; I'm in love! Frederic Nicolas Thiebaud has been a true gift to me as a compassionate, understanding friend and over time, an amazing love has blossomed from this precious friendship. Fred and I are happy to announce, our engagement!"
Twain was previously married to Robert 'Mutt' Lange but their 14-year union ended in May 2008 after he embarked on a relationship with Thiebaud's ex-wife Marie-Anne Thiebaud, a friend of Shania.
Twain has said that experience has shown her who her true friends really are.
Twain - who has a nine-year-old son, Eja, with Lange - said: "In the last two and a half years of adjusting to life after separation and divorce, I needed to lean on others more often than I was accustomed to. These people have been gifts, and I am fortunate to have so many of these beautiful people - friends, family and beloved fans, who's support I cherish more deeply with each day that passes. Now another year is about to pass, and I would like to thank everyone who helped me believe that new beginnings are possible and that love can be trusted."
People magazine reported that the pair became romantically involved in 2009, finding solace after their respective spouses allegedly had an affair which broke up both marriages.
Twain and music producer Lange had married in 1993, six months after meeting. They lived between homes in New Zealand and Switzerland before splitting in 2008.
In 2005, Twain and Lange bought 25,000 hectares at Mototapu and Mt Soho high country stations the South Island, and in 2008 opened a public hiking trail on the couple's Queenstown property of more than 61,000 acres as part of the condition of the original purchase. The Motatapu Track runs between Wanaka, Macetown and Arrowtown and about half of it is on Twain's land. It was opened with former Prime Minister Helen Clark in March 2008.
It's not yet known if Twain will keep the property now she has
On hearing of the news of Shania Twain's marriage, one fan dryly Tweeted "Shania just married the man that was married to the woman her first husband had an affair with. That don't impress me much."
