Seven Sharp presenters announced

Published: 10:26AM Tuesday January 08, 2013 Source: ONE News

TVNZ has announced that Ali Mau , Greg Boyed , and Jesse Mulligan will host TV ONE's new 7pm show, Seven Sharp.

Head of News and Current Affairs Ross Dagan says the Seven Sharp presenting line-up is an experienced team with strong journalistic pedigree, who collectively personify all of the attributes of the new show.

"We have brought together an enthusiastic team of presenters with unsurpassed news and current affairs credentials and the proven ability to be entertaining. We are confident this team will tell compelling stories in a refreshing way that will engage New Zealand viewers.

"Seven Sharp will reflect the day's events with smart thinking, different viewpoints, and plenty of laughs along the way.

"We are pleased to appoint two of the three presenters from within TVNZ's pool of talent and to welcome Jesse to the TVNZ team."

Ali is one of New Zealand's longest serving and most respected journalists, and her most recent role with TVNZ has been as the co-host of long-running consumer affairs show Fair Go.

She said: "I'm thrilled to be part of this, particularly as the Seven Sharp team is such a strong one both journalistically and creatively.

"I'm really looking forward to working alongside Greg and Jesse in the studio, both of whom bring a wicked sense of humour and depth of knowledge to the show.

"The only difficult part of the decision was leaving Fair Go, as I've loved it so much, and I'll miss working alongside my Fair Go colleagues day to day."

Greg has been a valued member of the TVNZ News and Current Affairs team for more than a decade with recent roles on ONE News at 6, Tonight and Q+A.

He said: "I am really looking forward to being part of a brand spanking new show and having a bit of a rant and a ramble, in a way that I perhaps wasn't able to in my most recent roles.

"While I have loved reading the news and working on Q+A, I'm looking forward to providing a fresh perspective with Jesse and Ali at 7pm."

Jesse, who originally trained as a lawyer, is a well-known and respected writer and comedian, and has for the last three years been head writer and panellist on TV3's 7 Days.

In addition to comedy and broadcasting, Mulligan has also worked as a journalist, public relations practitioner and food critic. He has a particular interest in social media.

"I'm delighted and excited to be part of TV ONE's new approach to 7pm," he said. "Being on every night really gives you an opportunity to build a relationship with your audience and workmates - it's a cool and unique opportunity, and I'm stoked to be on the team."

While Seven Sharp is not due on air for another few weeks, Executive Producer Raewyn Rasch says the show is already coming together well.

"We are well-advanced in the production planning stages of Seven Sharp, and have a great catalogue of stories already underway that we are raring to go with. We are really excited at the shape the show is taking," she said.

Announcements on who will replace Ali Mau on Fair Go and Greg Boyed on Tonight will be made in the coming weeks.
