Pearl Jam arrive in New Zealand this week to play two concerts. The Seattle grunge band who formed in 1991 have 10 studio albums to their name (if you include the Ten re-issue), meaning they've got a lot of great songs to their name.
We want you to put your Pearl Jam loving soul on the line and name your favourite Pearl Jam song of all time. Some of TVNZ's biggest Pearl Jam fans have had their say. Post your favourite and why on the messageboard - do you agree with the song choices below or is there another you just can't live without?
Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small
Town
"'I just want to scream HELLOOOOO' ... there is no better moment
than singing that line LIVE with Eddie Vedder. It's about
sing-a-longs and good times - a total bonding song, you just grab a
friend and sing and sway!"
Jeremy
"I love Jeremy because I think it was the first Pearl Jam song I
ever heard. It really captures that early 90s angst. And the long
notes in the chorus allow me to bust out my best Eddie Vedder
impersonation, which annoys my girlfriend sooooooooo much it's
hilarious."
Even Flow
"An oldie but a goodie. Kick ass guitar solo. Turn it up LOUD."
Better Man
"I saw it Eddie Vedder live with Neil Finn at the St James about
eight years ago on the 7 Worlds Collide tour and this song was one
of the most awesome live performances I've ever seen. It has great
lyrics and a great crescendo, it keeps building and is a song that
keeps on giving. It should always be played very, very loud."
Release
"The song that closes Ten is a slice of unashamed yearning from the
small-hours. It makes me want to cry a little bit, hug people,
smoke a pack, and stand in a field with 30,000 people. If Release
is in a PJ set list then it's always the opening track and is the
equivalent of taking rock 'n' roll communion. Includes the
definitive slow-burn Eddie Vedder vocal moment: 'I wait up iiiin
the daaaark, for you to speeeeeak to meeeeeeee&'"
Black
"For no other reason than the line: 'I know some day you'll have a
beautiful life, I know you'll be the sun in someone else's sky but
why can't it be mine.' Amazing."
Alive
"It's such a great guitar song, the solo is so epic they use two
guitarists to play it (one guitarist plays the first part then the
second plays the second part). Vedder's vocals are classic and it's
a song you can mumble along to, usually the first song that comes
to mind when I think of Pearl Jam."
Daughter
"Has to be Daughter as the best Pearl Jam song. I've not a clue
what it's actually about but I used to jam in a band that played it
including me doing a comically bad Eddie Vedder warble!"
State of Love and Trust
"An oldy but a goody - raw, early 90s Pearl Jam...'And I listen
yeah, to the voice inside my head, nothing, I do this one
myself.'"
So what's your favourite...

Going to cheat and pick the 2 song suite on the Merkinball EP - I Got ID, and Long Road. Perfect combination of PJ guitars, and epic ballad, plus Neil Young playing with them. Best played very loud
