Rod Stewart 'broken' when Rachel Hunter left him

Published: 6:51PM Monday October 08, 2012 Source: ONE News

Hitmaker Rod Stewart has revealed Rachel Hunter is the only woman who has broken his heart.

In a soon-to-be-released autobiography, the 67-year-old says he was "emotionally broken" when the New Zealand supermodel left him.

He says he lost 5kg and lay on a couch clutching a hot water bottle for four months.

The couple split in 1999 after a nine-year marriage.

Hunter told TV ONE's Good Morning programme that her own book plans had been shelved for now.

"I've gone through a lot of stuff in the last four or five years - as we all do at certain stages in our life - but I had to kind of back off from it because Rod's book was coming out," she said.

"Otherwise it just looks like I'm trying to ride-off that."

Hunter said she would "probably" release her book in 2013.

Talking about judging on NZ's Got Talent, Hunter described being taken aback by contestant Tawaroa Kawana who sang one of Stewart's songs.

"I hadn't heard that he was coming out to sing one of Rod's songs so when it happened... yeah it was a personal thing that happened to me, but at the same time, the way he sang it was what affected me."

Hunter said the "talent and diversity" the show had attracted was "incredible".

"They stick out like sore thumbs - the great ones - they really do," she said.

She said there was a "tall poppy syndrome" in New Zealand and it was really nice to see Kiwis wanting someone to succeed.
