Pop star Robbie Williams' mother says her son's on-air proposal to girlfriend Ayda Field in Australia is genuine.
Jan Williams says she was shopping for an engagement card for the couple on Friday after the singer proposed on 2Day FM during the Sydney radio station's breakfast show with Jackie Henderson, also known as Jackie O.
"He wanted to do something different," Jan Williams told BBC Radio 5 Live in the UK. "She's a lovely girl and I'm really pleased for them. I've got a daughter-in-law."
She said she had known of her son's intentions for about a week, so the news was no surprise.
"I'm very excited," she added. "They've been together for nearly three years so it's about time."
Her comments came amid confusion over whether the on-air proposal was a joke after reports said a spokesman for the star denied the couple were engaged.
"He did say it, but in a jocular manner. They are not engaged," the spokesman was quoted as saying.
The proposal came when Henderson asked Williams if he had any news to share in light of Sydney's "reputation for proposals with celebrities".
The former Take That singer then popped the question.
The American actress agreed and the couple borrowed Henderson's ring, which was in the design of a frog.
