Rumours are rife about the future radio career of Kyle Sandilands, with some suggesting he'll be sacked on Monday but others predicting he'll return with a salary cut.
His employer Austereo is remaining quiet about their plans for Sandilands, after they suspended him earlier in the week over comments he made about comedian Magda Szubanski only losing weight if she were in a concentration camp .
But it's understood the 2DAYFM host is on his way back to the country for meetings with management.
Sandilands made the comments on his breakfast radio show while broadcasting from the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles.
Some media reports have suggested he will be sacked on Monday for the comments, which were insulting to Holocaust survivors and their families.
But Austereo FM breakfast veteran Jamie Dunn said Austereo wouldn't risk losing the top-rating breakfast shock jock.
"There's no chance they would sack him. I'd bet the farm I'm sitting on," Dunn told industry magazine MediaWeek.
"Unless they lose lots and lots of advertisers," he added, saying he didn't think that would happen.
Sponsor Optus pulled out of the show earlier in the week.
Dunn defended Sandilands, saying the presenter was just trying to be funny, and the comments about Szubanski were "just pop and fizz".
Meanwhile, one source told AAP that Austereo executives were fed up with the amount of power Sandilands wielded and may use the incident to halve his $2 million salary.
Sandilands' absence from radio will not affect the ratings, because a two-week ratings break is now under way.
Another insider suggested that Austereo would bring Sandilands back on air when ratings resume on September 21.
Co-host Jackie O has been fronting the top-rating breakfast show with Andrew G and Dannii Minogue in Sandilands' absence.
Sandilands is on the guest list for the Sydney opening of the musical Wicked on Saturday night, but it's not expected he will attend.
The latest controversy comes about a month after Sandilands and Jackie O were off air for two weeks after a 14-year-old girl was strapped to a lie detector and asked on air about her sexual history.
They returned on August 18, but Sandilands lost his Australian Idol judging job amid an outcry over the incident.
