Rebecca Hobbs and Aaron Gilmore were shown the door in Dancing with the Stars on Tuesday night despite the judges giving them the third highest score among the five remaining couples.

Participants were asked to perform two dances, the Samba and a group dance American Smooth.

Barbara Kendall and Johnny Williams shone in the Samba as well as in the American Smooth with highest scores of 31 and 33, with the judges agreeing they gave a very "strong performance" and their effort "very, very nice indeed".

However, former rugby player Josh Kronfeld and partner Rachel were criticised by one of the judges for their "listless, languid" performance in the Samba. They scored the lowest in both the dances with scores of 22 and 26 respectively.

The judges said that although they liked and enjoyed Rebecca and Aaron's Samba routine, it was however, "a starchy" performance and their group dancing was quite "disappointing".

With the public vote coming in, it was Rebecca and Aaron who had to exit.

Weatherman Tamati Coffey and partner Samantha, Geraldine Brophy and Stefano, Barbara Kendall and Johnny Williams, and Josh Kronfeld and Rachel all survived to dance another day.

The highlight of the night was the seamless rendition of the Kelly Clarkson super hit "Break away" sung by Ali Harper in the group dancing.
