Kings of Leon were forced to shut down a concert in the US after pigeon poo landed on the musicians and their instruments.

The band were forced to abandon their concert in St Louis, Missouri, after just three songs when an infestation of the birds in the rafters of the amphitheatre bombarded them when they took to the stage.

According to CNN , the band's bassist, Jared Followill, was hit several times, including once in his face, during the first two songs.

Followill said by the end of the 20 song set list he would have been covered from head to toe in pigeon poo.

The group had reportedly been warned about the pigeon problem but were determined to play for the crowd.

The opening bands came offstage covered in large amounts of excrement, but Kings of Leon decided to go on.

Concert-goers were reportedly spared the bombardment of poo and the band have promised they will return as soon as they can.
