British singer Pete Doherty has been charged with possessing heroin and released on bail, police said on Wednesday, just a day after he was fined for drink-driving.
The 30-year-old Babyshambles frontman appeared in court on Monday in Gloucester, western England, on charges of driving under the influence of drink and escaped jail.
But after admitting careless and drink-driving following a gig in the city in June, he was banned from driving for 18 months and fined 2,050 pounds.
Police officers then immediately escorted him from the court to the police station across the road and charged him with the drugs offence.
"The 30-year-old Wiltshire man arrested in Gloucester yesterday has been charged with possession of heroin and bailed to appear at Gloucester Magistrates court on January 27," a police spokesman said.
Doherty, who once dated supermodel Kate Moss, has a history of drug and driving offences and was jailed in 2008 for breaching the terms of his probation.
