Actor Orlando Bloom has had $US500,000 ($NZ77,000) of jewellery stolen from his house.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor's Hollywood Hills home was targeted by burglars on Thursday who made off with several expensive items.

A source said: "Law enforcement tells us the thieves entered Bloom's house though a window and made off with roughly $US500,000 in jewellery - including two very expensive watches."

Police have fingerprinted and photographed the house, and are currently working on leads.

Luckily, Orlando, 32, was in New York at the time of the break-in.

A source said: "Orlando is gutted that his personal space has been invaded. He should be there right now to let the police know what has been taken."

Orlando, who is reportedly engaged to Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr, is not the only star to fall victim to thieves this year.

In April, Heroes actress Hayden Panettiere returned from a trip to Australia to find $US15,000 ($NZ23,000) of jewellery had been taken from her Los Angeles home.
