Leslie Carter may have died of a suspected overdose, it has emerged.

According to a police incident report, Nick and Aaron Carter's sister Leslie - who was found dead aged 25 in New York on Wednesday - was allegedly discovered with three prescription drugs near her body.

Carter's grandmother, Ginger Carter, said she "seemed OK in the morning but at times seemed depressed just by the way she was talking".

Ginger helped the aspiring singer to rest in bed after finding out she had fallen down in the shower but later that afternoon Ginger and husband Robert discovered Carter still unconscious in bed, and called 911.

Despite the emergence of the report, the official autopsy results are yet to be released pending toxicology tests.

Following an autopsy on her body, coroner Richard Mackowiak, of the Chautauqua County Coroner's Office, explained: "We are awaiting a toxicology report to determine a cause of death. There were no visible signs of trauma."

As a result of her death, Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter has dedicated the group's forthcoming tour to his late sister.

"Performing is cathartic to me and I am dedicating the rest of my tour to my sister since she loved to watch me perform," said Nick Carter.

The Carter family previously said: "Our family is grieving right now and it's a private matter. We are deeply saddened for the loss of our beloved sister, daughter, and granddaughter, Leslie Carter.

"We request the utmost privacy during this difficult time."

Carter leaves behind her husband Mike Ashton and 10-month-old daughter Alyssa Jane.
