Published: 8:31AM Thursday November 01, 2012 Source: ONE News

New Zealand's music elite has packed out Auckland's Vector Areana ahead of this year's Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards.

English folk stars Mumford & Sons, along with American musician Ben Harper, will provide an international flavour to the 47th annual VNZMAs tonight.

Other presenters at tonight's ceremony include director Taika Waititi, reality TV star Jaime Ridge, the GC's Tame Noema and New Zealand-born Hollywood star Karl Urban.

Hamilton-born singer Kimbra has swept the most Tui nominations for this year's awards and is eligible for six, including Album of the Year.

Her recent debut album Vows has already won her critical acclaim and seen the Hamilton-born songstress headline a tour of North America.

"It was amazing. We sold out over half of the dates, two nights in NY and LA. Just so exciting."

She said it was "really special" to be back in New Zealand because it was "where it all started".

"It's where I have my roots. Where I played to pubs of four or five people. It's nice to come back and have the hard work acknowledged."

Although Ben Harper and Mumford & Sons won't be performing at the awards, nominees such as Gin Wigmore, Kimbra, Six60, Home Brew and The Black Seeds will be strutting their stuff for the crowd, which will include celebrities, music industry professionals and members of the public.

Keisha Castle-Hughes is also rumoured to be making a surprise appearance.

Other artists with multiple nominations include Home Brew and rock band Six60 with five each, Gin Wigmore is in the running for four awards and Opossom is up for three.

Auckland musician Watercolours was named the Critics' Choice Award winner after a live showcase in October that also featured up-and-comers Beach Pigs and Loui the ZU.

The Legacy Award has already been given to punk rock legends Toy Love, who will receive their Tui at the event. The band will also be inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame.

Winners of the Vodafone Highest Selling Single, the Highest Selling Album, NZ On Air Radio Airplay Record of the Year and the International Achievement Award will also be announced at the ceremony.

Last year's awards were cleaned up by Auckland indie band The Naked and Famous and Brooke Fraser, who each won five awards.
