Miranda Kerr sings New Zealand's praises

Published: 1:17PM Saturday August 18, 2012 Source: ONE News

Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr has described her seven month stay in New Zealand as one of the best experiences of her life.

Kerr, 29, told the New York Times' T Magazine that she has enjoyed spending family time in Wellington over the past few months while her husband Orlando Bloom, 35, is filming Peter Jackson's The Hobbit.

The magazine also featured an editorial on Kerr's visit - which Bloom photographed - in which the model is depicted posing at her favourite local spots, such as Wellington's Oriental Bay.

Kerr told the magazine, however, that her recent trip was not her first visit here.

She described how at the age of 18, she travelled to New Zealand on a backpacking trip to "escape and explore". She says she enjoyed sleeping in a tent, and swimming in natural hot springs.

"That backpacking trip, just having that freedom, was one of the best times in my life. Ever since, I've wanted to get back to New Zealand," Kerr commented to the magazine.

Kerr said that she went on a road trip reminiscent of her earlier journey here, when she arrived in December 2011, this time with Bloom and her baby son Flynn.

She said that the trio aimlessly drove around the local countryside, and were "out of reach and out of touch".

"We didn't camp because Flynn's still a little young for that. But it was just the three of us, nothing to do except be with each other in this shockingly beautiful place," she said.

Kerr says she attended an outdoor production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night while in Wellington, and regularly visited the Botanic Gardens, Cuba Street and Scorching Bay.

Bloom agreed with Kerr's comments, and said that the New Zealander's are "just really real."

"They don't care about the same things that everyone else does," he said.

Previously, the Lord of the Rings star has spoken of his desire to raise his son without being in the public eye too much.

"I tend to keep a very low profile. I just enjoy being home with my family and mates and stuff," Bloom said.

The premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be held at Wellington's Embassy Theatre on 28 November.
