Liam Hemsworth wanted Miley Cyrus' engagement ring to be "beautiful and romantic".
The 22-year-old actor proposed to his 19-year-old girlfriend with a 3.5-carat cushion-cut diamond ring, handcrafted in 18-Karat gold from Neil Lane and the jeweller revealed he and Liam worked "worked back and forth" to design the stunning ring.
Neil told People magazine: "It was hand-cut around 1880 or 1890 and it's unique and in its original form. At that time no two diamonds were alike, as they were all hand-cut, so it's fascinating to look at because it hasn't been re-cut to look contemporary over the years. I find that really romantic.
"It's a contemporary design based on vintage aesthetics. The light flashes and sparkles no matter where Miley moves her hand."
Yesterday, Miley took to twitter to thanks fans for their wellwishes.
She said: "Thank you for all the love today :) I'm happy to share this news with you all. I feel like all my dreams are coming true. have a great day (sic)."
Liam asked Miley's dad Billy Ray and mom Tish for permission
before he popped the question.
