Masterchef said goodbye to its second contestant on Wednesday night after a tricky roulade proved too much.
The show's 11 contestants had to recreate two recipes from guest chef Tony Astle: A Thai curry made from tripe and a difficult roulade with meringue rolled around whipped cream and berries.
Andrew Spear bowed out of the competition, saying he thought he was for the high-jump when he put his roulade in front of the judges.
Judge Ray McVinnie instantly told him it was not looking good - he could live with the incorrect plate that Spear had used, but the dish was smeared with cream and looked unappetising.
Judge Simon Gault said it looked so bad, he didn't want to try it.
And, Astle told Spear if any of his staff put a dish like that out, they would be in deep trouble. He thought Spear was going to do better.
"You eat with your eyes first. That plate, I've never, ever, seen a plate so messy, but dirty - it's an absolute no no in any restaurant," he said.
Spear said the elimination was hard to take.
"I feel like I've let myself down. That's competition, people have their bad days, and this is definitely one of those for me."
