Madonna has slammed M.I.A. for her "teenage" antics during their Super Bowl performance.

The Music hitmaker admits she was disappointed in the British rapper - who caused controversy when flipped her middle finger at the camera during her appearance for Gimme all your Luvin - because she didn't feel her antics were appropriate for the prestigious Super Bowl XLVI Half Time Show last weekend.

Madonna told KIIS-FM DJ Ryan Seacrest:  "I wasn't happy about it. I understand it's kind of punk rock and everything, but to me there was such a feeling of love and good energy and positivity, it seemed negative.

"It's one of those things, it's such a teenager& in a way, kind of irrelevant kind of thing to do. There was such a feeling of love and unity there, what was the point? It was just out of place."

Despite her comments, Madonna admitted she didn't know about the incident until afterwards.

She added: "To tell you the truth, I didn't even know about it. I didn't know about it until I left. I found out about it in the elevator, actually.

"I was really surprised. I didn't know anything about it."

TV station NBC Sports have already issued an apology over M.I.A.'s actions.

A spokesperson said: "We apologise for the inappropriate gesture that aired during halftime. It was a spontaneous gesture that our delay system caught late."
