Lindsay Lohan claims an "old friend" is responsible for the recent burglary at her home.

The Mean Girls actress, who is devastated by last weekend's break-in at her Los Angeles home, made the accusation on her Twitter blog.

Responding to a friend who said she was lucky her computer was not taken, Lindsay wrote: "that's how i know it was not a ROBBERY. electronics weren't taken... just things that a certain old friend knew meant a lot to me (sic)."

It was originally claimed the 23-year-old star returned home to find her safe ripped from the wall and various shoes, bags and jewellery missing.

It has since been reported the safe contained incriminating videos and photographs that could cause embarrassment if they are made public.

Lindsay's father Michael and mother Dina have both publicly spoken out following the break in, with Lindsay admitting she is too nervous to return home.

She wrote on Twitter: "i'm sorry i haven't been on in a bit... my life has been kind of in shambles considering my house was broken into and i feel really violated

"it really makes me sad, and well, obviously-scared (sic)."
