Hamilton-born songstress Kimbra could be the first Kiwi to make it to number one on the US music charts.
The hit Kimbra and Gotye duet Somebody That I Used To Know has reached number two on the Billboard Top 100, after peaking at number one in New Zealand, Australia, United Kingdom and Germany.
The song, written by Belgian-Australian Gotye, has already peaked at number one on the Billboard's Top Rock, YouTube and MySpace charts.
Its US popularity comes nearly a week after the hit show Glee remade the track for an episode entitled Big Brother.
Only one other Kiwi outfit has made it to number two on the Billboard charts.
Crowded House's Don't Dream It's Over reached number two in 1987.
Eight years later, OMC's one-hit wonder How Bizarre made its way up the Airplay chart but it was not released as a single in the US so did not qualify for the Billboard Top 100 chart.
Somebody That I Used To Know has received more than 160 million views on YouTube and has sold 4.5 million copies.
