Well, that was uneventful.

Sure, there were some nice frocks - and some even better shocks (January Jones single-handedly depleted the world's Sellotape stock trying to stay in her outfit.)

But the winners at the Golden Globes were predictable - and the speeches painfully dull.

One speech did raise my eyebrows however - from the producers of The Social Network following their Best Drama win.

They thanked Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. The same man who refused to help them or speak to them during the film-making process.

The man, who after the film was made, lobbied them to alter the film, to paint a more flattering portrait of him.

The man who refused to attend their film's premiere - and spoke publicly of his annoyance at the film being made.

They thanked him specifically and sincerely.

And you have to wonder why? By all counts, he made their lives pretty difficult. Have they suddenly decided to let bygones be bygones and become pals?

Or have they negotiated some sort of secret deal between the studio and Facebook? Will Facebook soon start offering movie downloads - or screen trailers every time you update your status?

Of course, I'm being cynical. But something about it seemed very odd.

My other big question of the night is: Where is host Ricky Gervais this morning? Has anyone heard from him? Is he still alive?

If he does go missing, the list of suspects will be long and powerful, after Gervais managed to offend half of Hollywood last night - and shock the rest of them into submission.

While his cutting quips left viewers sniggering at home, Hollywood's A-list were too scared to cough as he set his sights on Tinseltown's biggest power players.

Tom Cruise, John Travolta and the whole Church of Scientology will be upset with Gervais' humour.

Likewise Angelina Jolie looked far from impressed as Gervais (justifiably) mocked her starring turn in the box office flop, The Tourist. At least her co-star Johnny Depp had the good grace to grimace at the jokes.

Not even the organisers escaped unscathed. Indeed, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association must be wondering what they were thinking hiring the British comedian, who didn't hesitate to bring up their embarrassing bribes scandal.

Gervais joked earlier on the Ellen DeGeneres show that he planned to go out guns-ablazing this year, in the hopes he wouldn't be asked back again.

I think he may have achieved his aim.

Missed the Globes yesterday? Check out the red carpet and ceremony as they happened.
