Haven't we been here before?

The world has been gripped by another expletive-ridden tirade by a Hollywood hot shot, secretly taped and leaked to the media.

Mel Gibson allegedly told his Russian girlfriend - and the mother of his child - Oksana Grigorieva that she looked like a whore. Along with some other choice words.

I say allegedly because we can't be 100% sure whose voice it is we hear on this secret recording.

All I will say is this person, who certainly sounds like Mad Max, also sounds like a jackass.

This isn't the first time we've seen a brutal side of Gibson. Four years ago, he launched a now-infamous tirade against a police officer, who pulled him over for speeding and driving under the influence.

According to the original police report (which was later amended to omit the comments), Gibson said: ""F**king Jews ... the Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world."

Gibson became headline news and embarked on a very public journey of redemption.

He apologised to the Jewish community and checked into rehab. He owned up to what he did and put on a great show of contrition.

He did a Diane Sawyer interview, and eventually began to joke about the saga, telling Jimmy Kimmel he never called a female police officer "sugar tits" - but wished he'd come up with the phrase...

Slowly, the world forgot about it. And we moved on to other celebrity blowouts.

Like Alec Baldwin's irate voicemail to his 11-year-old daughter Ireland in 2007.

Or David Hasselhoff's sad, drunken attempt to eat a hamburger

And let us not forget, the dark knight of celebrity meltdowns - Christian Bale

Just like Gibson, none of these actors have endured any lasting backlash from these incidents.

The world was happy to write them off as isolated incidents and move on.

But Gibson has broken the unspoken pact to forgive and forget. His recent outburst has reminded us, once again, what a despicable human being he is.

And this time, we shouldn't forget.

The truth is none of these incidents is likely to be a one-off. It would be an unlucky person indeed who gets caught the first and only time they've engaged in such behaviour.

To get caught twice likely means Gibson carries on like this constantly. One can only imagine the bigoted bile he's spewed over his lifetime.

And people like that should not be rewarded with the riches of Hollywood - the fame, adulation and cold hard cash.

Life is too short to put up with a**holes. And Mel Gibson is definitely one of those.
