First, a disclaimer: The following blog contains sweeping generalisations based on nothing other than the warped logic of my mind. It also contains the 'F' word (F-A-T).
This story left me grinning like an idiot this morning. Not because Richard Branson's house burned down - that is unfortunate to say the least. But because of this one brilliant detail.
Branson spoke to Britain's ITV News about the incident, saying:
"[Kate Winslet] was staying there with her children and in fact it
was she who carried my mother out of the house.
"She swept her up into her arms and got them out of the house as
fast as possible."
I have long had a girl crush on Kate Winslet. She's smart, funny and used to be fat. (And not Hollywood fat either. As a 15 year old she weighed 84kg - that is substantial for a teenage girl).
It is a well established fact that people who used to be fat are much, MUCH more interesting than slim people. They learn to develop their personality and are more comfortable in their own skin.
You never hear former fat people complaining about having a "fat day" - while strutting around in size 8 jeans.
Which is why I love Ms Winslet. She just seems so completely charming and grounded.
Can you imagine if Jennifer Aniston or Megan Fox had been on hand last night? They would have stood around shrieking and hand flapping while the house went up in flames.
But not Kate. No, she knew what had to be done.
I have this vision of her kicking open Mrs Branson's bedroom door, hauling her out of bed and charging out of the house as burning pillars and ceiling beams collapse around her.
What other Hollywood starlet would have had the strength and presence of mind to do that?
Of course, she won't go around talking about it. Kate's too low-key for that. If Richard Branson hadn't stepped forward and told the story, I doubt we'd ever have known.
But I'm so glad we do, because Kate Winslet has just been elevated from cool to totally kick ass.

I totally agree with Joanna's comments. That is the sort of thing you could expect Kate to do. I can remember after the "Titanic" when Kate was not ashamed of her generous curves as was all the more spectacularly beautiful for it. A girl who knows her own mind and acts accordingly. great to see her getting appreciation like this
