Call it a guilty pleasure, call it trash, the fact is Gossip Girl is compulsory viewing in my household. One of the only programmes my boyfriend and I can agree to watch together.

It's escapism at its best - beautiful people, beautiful clothes, ridiculous storylines.

It's this century's answer to Dynasty.

The show has become an international hit with teenagers and immature adults alike.

So we shouldn't be surprised that one of the stars of the show - Blake Lively - is thinking about moving on. Setting her sights on the bigger prize of feature films.

For those who have never had the immense pleasure of watching Gossip Girl, Lively is a tall, blonde goddess with legs up to her eyes and an unnaturally pert bosom.

In fact, the girls over at Go Fug Yourself have taken to calling her Boobs Legsly, and there really is no more fitting name.

So yes, we can all agree she is an exquisitely beautiful creature. And that will always help in life, especially in Hollywood.

But let's not get carried away. Lively's acting credentials are mediocre at best.

The daughter of two unknown actors, her first on screen role was in a film her father directed - Sandman.

Nepotism does not equal talent. Just ask Tori Spelling.

Her next role was in The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants - a made-for-television film that was somehow allowed to enter cinemas.

And then she scored Gossip Girl. A show that has made her, if not a household name, certainly a familiar face (and other body part).

Gossip Girl granted her instant red carpet access and tabloid entry. Her blonde tresses are regularly seen flicked across the pages of the biggest weekly magazines.

It's understandable Lively might have developed an over-inflated sense of importance.

But she is about to fall into a well worn trap - one that has broken many an actress before her.

Lively doesn't realise that her A-list access card comes with conditions. Namely - that you need to be on an A-list show to keep it.

The card wasn't issued to Lively - it was issued to an actress on Gossip Girl. And if Lively leaves the show, her privileges will be revoked and passed on to whichever blonde replaces her.

Since joining Gossip Girl, Lively has featured (not starred) in six films. None of which you will have heard of.

Even Katherine Heigel had the sense to wait for a big hit before ditching Grey's Anatomy. And look how well that's worked out for her.

Killers - her most recent film - was so badly panned by critics, she pulled out of the film's promotional tour and stopped attending premieres.

Lively may see Gossip Girl as a springboard to a Hollywood career but I suggest she looks before she leaps. She might just see the corpses of many a leggy blonde before her.
