The red carpet has been rolled out for Peter Jackson's film The Lovely Bones in Los Angeles on Tuesday night.
Executive producer Steven Spielberg joined the film maker as well as the stars, including Susan Sarandon, rising Irish star Saoirse Ronan and Reece Ritchie, at the US premiere.
The film, based on the acclaimed best-selling novel by Alice Sebold, has already generated an Oscar buzz.
A story about the afterlife, The Lovely Bones is about a raped and murdered girl, who watches her family's grief from heaven.
The US launch follows its world premiere in London in November, where early reviews have proved mixed.
The Variety reviewer, Todd McCarthy, surprisingly claimed that Jackson has used special effects too much and too often for a film which didn't need them.
He called the presentation "show-offy" and said the film "rates as a significant artistic disappointment".
However, in The Guardian, Xan Brooks said "it is handsomely made
and strongly acted, while its woozy, lullaby ambience recalls
Jackson's work on the brilliant Heavenly Creatures, before he set
forth on his epic voyage through The Lord of the Rings."BR
