Christchurch soprano Hayley Westenra's engagement to her long-term-partner French Arnaud Sabard has been confirmed.
Earlier reports that Sabard proposed to the 24-year-old singer while on holiday in New Zealand have now been backed up by Gerald Westenra, Hayley's Father.
He told the New Zealand Herald both families were delighted with the engagement and looking forward to the wedding.
"We're very excited. [Hayley] didn't want to leave the country until she had that ring."
Though there was no fixed date for the wedding ceremony, it was likely to be held at home in New Zealand, he said.
"It's unlikely to be held in France, though of course we have to accommodate both families. We do have a beautiful country here of course."
The Kiwi songstress has just returned to her London base after spending Christmas with her family in Christchurch and is due to launch her Paridiso tour in Britain.
She tweeted a photo of herself recording in a London studio today but made no mention of her engagement.
