The actor who plays Harry's best friend Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movies has contracted swine flu.

The publicist for Rupert Grint, who has played Weasley in all of the Potter films to date, says it is a mild case though.

The 20-year-old British actor, ranked sixteenth in the Forbes list of highest earners aged under 25, is due on the red carpet at the London premiere of hit new movie Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and says he is determined to be there.

He is also filming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the seventh in the Harry Potter franchise, but has had to take a few days off.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince opens throughout Europe and New Zealand on July 15.

Four people have died in Britain of swine flu, the A(H1N1) virus, and the country has Europe's highest number of reported cases with nearly 7,500.
