The sixth novel in the seven strong series, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was released on 16th July 2005 to fervent anticipation.

It's set in the sixth year of Harry Potter's time at Hogwarts and sees Ron, Harry and Hermione preparing for the final battle against Lord Voldemort.

It begins with the sentence: "It was nearing midnight and the Prime Minister was sitting alone in his office, reading a long memo that was slipping through his brain without leaving the slightest trace of meaning behind" and ends with the words "...one last golden day of peace left to enjoy with Ron and Hermione."

The book sold a record 9 million copies in the first 24 hours - but prior to that, there was a bit of controversy around the release.

According to Wikipedia, there'd been a flurry of betting at UK Bookmakers on who was going to die in this book - one village in particular had placed a high number of bets on one person (no spoilers here sorry!) - it turned out that village was where the book was bound.....slightly suspicious eh?

A Canadian book store accidentally sold 14 copies of the book before its official release. Its publisher had to head to the Supreme Court to get the buyers slapped with an injunction to prevent them from reading the books. The publishers even offered a T shirt and signed copy of the book as an incentive for them to return it.

Now it's a film - and it's sure to repeat the successes of the previous box office smashes.

With just two films left to go, it looks like Harry Potter won't go quietly into the literary night!

I went to see Harry Potter last night and thought it was great but I have to say, I enjoyed the previous films much more. Where was the action and likes of Fluffy and Aragon? It just wasn't the same!

I am so disappointed by this movie. They left out the entire <SPOILER REMOVED!.> In fact the entire ending (the last twenty mins) had me so angry I was ready to walk out of the theater. For a movie that generates millions and millions of dollars worldwide, you would think they could afford a more "true to the book" movie. I am very interested to know what they are planning to do with the two final installments. They left out so much of this movie I just dont see how it will be any good. I give it a C- and that is being generous.
