Join us again for coverage of the Oscars on February 27.

6.02pm: This year's Grammy Awards were shadowed by the death of one of the world's most influential singers, Whitney Houston, and tributes flowed thoughout the ceremony.

The big winners of the day were Adele, who won six awards including three of the Big Four. Bon Iver won the fourth big award for Best New Artist. The Foo Fighters won five for the day, including Best Rock Performance, which gives the band 11 in total. Kanye West took away four including Best Rap Song.

The outfit stand-outs were Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Jessie J and Corinne Bailey Rae. While musicians' clothing choices don't have the grace and elegance film a-listers do, they certainly don't fail to impress.

5.25pm: Paul McCartney sees the ceremony off with Golden Slumbers dedicated to Houston.

5.20pm: The nominees for Album of the Year are Adele for 21, Foo Fighters for Wasting Light, Lady Gaga for Born This Way, Bruno Mars for Doo-Wops & Hooligans and Rihanna for Loud. The winner is Adele for 21. A tearful Adele claims her prize and says, "Mum, girl did good", as well as voicing wiping snot from her nose.

5.15pm: The award for Album of the Year is about to be announced. Will Adele continue her streak or will the Foo Fighters take it off her? Only Diana Ross will tell us, who presents the award next.

5.11pm: The nominees for Record of the Year are Adele for Rolling in the Deep, Bon Iver for Holocene, Bruno Mars for Grenade, Mumford & Sons for The Cave, and Katy Perry for Firework. No surprises here, the winner is Adele.

4.58pm: Chris Brown, Lil Wayne and David Guetta perform a medly, followed by the Foo Fighters and Deadmau5 who perform to an audience fitted with mouse heads.

4.43pm: Jennifer Hudson performs the tribute to Whitney Houston with tears in her eyes. She sings an impressive rendition of I Will Always Love You, ending with "Whitney we love you".

4.39pm: Lady Gaga must have slipped passed me on the red carpet, but with what she's wearing I don't know how. Clad in a Versace dominatrix-style costume with leather, chains and a fish-net mask, Gaga looks frightening to say the least.

4.31pm: Carrie Underwood praises the 16-time Grammy winner Tony Bennett before introducing the award for Best New Artist. The nominees are The Band Perry, Bon Iver, J. Cole, Nicki Minaj and Skrillex. The winner is Bon Iver.

4.29pm: Fun fact #8: The Grammy Awards have come under scrutiny in the past for awarding or nominating artists with commercially successful albums rather than those with critical acclaim.

4.21pm: Taylor Swift steps on stage to acknowledge country singer Glen Campbell, who announced his final tour and album after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease last year. The Rhinestone Cowboy has released 52 studio albums and six live albums throughout his 50-year career.

4.05pm: Adele belts out Rolling in the Deep, and her throat sounds top-notch after surgery. The music world may have lost a legendary voice yesterday but has gained another with Adele.

3.59pm: The nominees for Best Country Album are Jason Aldean for My Kind of Party, Eric Church for Chief, Lady Antebellum for Own the Night, Black Shelton for Red River Blue, George Strait for Here for a Good Time and Taylor Swift for Speak Now. The Grammy goes to Lady Antebellum.

3.43pm: Taylor Swift is sticking to her country roots performing her single Mean in a farm-girl outfit with a banjo. Swift looks flabbergasted as the audience gives her a standing ovation at the end of her song.

3.37pm: The nominees for Best R&B Album are Chris Brown for F.A.M.E., El DeBarge for Second Chance, R. Kelly for Love Letter, Ledii for Pieces of Me and Kelly Price for Kelly. The winner is Chris Brown.

2.58pm: Nominees Rhianna and Chris Martin are performing Coldplay's Princess of China together. The audience has been equipped with Coldplay's trademark concert bracelets that flash colourful lights, which were designed by a sex toy-maker.

2.53pm: They sure are cramming in the ad breaks. Here's fun fact #7: Nominees who aren't so lucky to win an award don't go home empty handed - everyone in the running gets a medal for their nomination.

2.47pm: Jack Black says he is holding on to his indie cred by introducing the Foo Fighters from outside the Grammys. The Dave Grohl-fronted band are playing their nominated song Walk to a moshing crowd.

The award goes to Jay-Z and Kanye West for Otis, but neither are there to accept the award.

2.31pm: Fun fact #6: Singer Adele, who is up for Record of the Year, was discovered on MySpace after a friend posted her music on the networking site. I hope that friend is getting a cut of her millions!

2.27pm: The priority for the Grammys seems to be in the acts rather than the awards. Chris Brown is performing his dance track Beautiful People which is more auto-tune than singing.

2.25pm: Adele truly is an amazing talent, but I'm glad she sounds better singing than she does when she talks.

2.23pm: The nominees for Best Pop Solo Performance are Adele for Someone Like You, Lady Gaga for You and I, Bruno Mars for Grenade, Katy Perry for Firework and Pink for F***'n Perfect. The award goes to Adele.

1.42pm: Neil Patrick Harris is presenting song of the year and tips Adele as the hot contender to win.

1.38pm: Rihanna says she helped design her dress with Giorgio Armani. It's a slinky black gown with a plunging neck line that she calls "gangster".

1.32pm: Taylor Swift has won two awards today, both in country categories. She resembles a sophisticated woman rather than the 12-year-old she used to in a high-necked sparkly (surprise, surprise) gown.

1.24pm: Nicki Minaj is giving Lady Gaga a run for her money with her red carpet presence. She's arrived in a Little Red Riding Hood-esque gown with a pope on her arm.

1.19pm: Fun fact #3: The Grammy Awards were first held in 1959 by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences to recognise musical achievements.

1.16pm:  Cyndi Lauper is still having fun at 58, coming to the Grammys dressed as the Wicked Witch of the West.

1.13pm: This year's red carpet has a very sparkly theme to it. Jessie J, Katy Perry, Adele and Carrie Underwood, to name just a few, are all epitomising magpie-glamour.

1.07pm: Jessie J's fringe is her red carpet statement. She's wearing a striking Julien Macdonald dress that Rancic says is her favourite so far.

12.59pm: Fergie has stayed true to her fashion taste in a hideous Jean Paul Gautier red lace maxi dress. Of course, you can see her black bra and undies underneath. How Fergalicious.

12.56pm: Fun fact #2: While the big awards ceremony is still to come, nearly 70 awards have already been given out in a pre-telecast ceremony, including Best Rap Song, Best Country Album and Best Soundtrack.

12.53pm: Katy Perry, with her blue Elie Saab dress and three-inch blue hair, looks like an ice queen.

12.49pm: Rock heavyweights the Foo Fighters have already won four awards and are up for Best Album of the Year against Adele.

12.48pm: Why is Rebecca Black even allowed at the Grammy Awards? I thought this ceremony was to award music excellence.

12.45pm: Adele has just stepped onto the red carpet dressed in her favourite colour - black. Her performance at the ceremony is highly anticipated as her first since undergoing throat surgery.

12.39pm: Houston's back catalogue is the background music for this year's red carpet.

12.37pm: Corinne Bailey Ray, winner for Best R&B Performance, is wearing my favoruite outfit so far - a black high-necked number with a ruffled trim.

12.31pm: Time for a break, so here's fun fact #1: There are 78 categories at this year's Grammy Awards. If you think that's impressive, the number of awards has been cut down from 109 from the previous year.

12.29pm: Paris Hilton says she is working on a new album. I think I can speak for a lot of people when I say that's one record I won't be purchasing.

12.27pm: DJ David Guetta looks rather disco in a studded-collar suit. He's up for Best Dance Recording.

12.25pm: OK Go say they would be parents, leggo set-designers and computer geeks if they weren't musicians.

12.16pm: As much as i love Kings of Leon, they seem to be going for a boring theme in both costume and coversation. They are up for Best Rock Album against the Foo Fighters.

12.14pm: Shaggy and his shaved chest have arrived on the red carpet.

12.11pm: Ryan Seacrest is talking to host LL Cool J who looks dapper in a velvet tux. Unforunately, he is also wearing a cheese-cutter.

12.09pm: Rancic is talking to Foster the People, who are up for Best Group Performance and says Elton John is a big fan of the trio.

12.01pm: We have lift off! E! host Juliana Rancic says there are an average of 30,000 tweets per minute paying tribute to the late Houston.

11.55am: The Grammy's traditionally lend themselves to more outrageous outfit choices than their classier award ceremony counterparts. So, what outlandish costumes can we expect? No doubt Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj won't be dressed in itsy bitsy little black dresses, but they do revel in the element of surprise.

11.47am: The tragic news of Whitney Houston's death yesterday afternoon has given a sombre theme to this years awards, with the producers putting on a special musical tribute to honour the singer's life.

Grammy award-winner Jennifer Hudson will sing in her honour and E! have been interviewing those who knew her in their pre-red carpet coverage.

11.45am: The red carpet action for the Grammy Awards kicks off in just 15 minutes, join us here live as we count down until the awards ceremony.
