Last week, Style Blog was lucky enough to be invited along to a special VIP fashion show at the Gucci store in Auckland where the Autumn/Winter 09 collection was revealed.

The champagne flowed and delicious, teeny tiny hors d'oeuvres were quickly devoured but it didn't take long to remember what we were actually there for.

Gucci is a name that exemplifies style and glamour. The house of Gucci was founded in 1921 by Guccio Gucci who started a leather goods shop in Florence. Guccio had a flair for style and sophistication with a particular English aesthetic he gained after a stint at living in Britain as a young lad.

The Gucci brand quickly moved into shoes, belts, bags and travelling trunks and then the well-known equestrian motif came into play.

Gucci created quite a few of the quintessential early "It" bags. From the "Bamboo bag" circa 1947, beloved by movie stars such as Grace Kelly and Elizabeth Taylor to their best selling bag of all time, the "Jackie O" bag which features the famous "G" logo.

The house of "G" got a big injection of fresh modernity and super sexy style when designer Tom Ford came to its design helm back in the '90s. The fashion house is currently headed by chief artistic designer Frida Giannini.

Giannini has a wonderful way of channelling trends and making them accessible in her designs and the Gucci aesthetic remains, as always, sexy and stylish.

Gucci Womenswear

The Gucci womenswear collection turned up the heat with some seriously sexy looks strutting down the catwalk.

Mad legwear featured - predominantly latex looking leggings and black thigh high boots and booties with insanely high, spiky heels.

The top half of the silhouette was kimono-style - looser drapey tops and iridescent mesh dresses galore! These gals were ready for the most exclusive fashionable nightclubs you could go to in Paris or New York!

Take a look at some of the looks from the womenswear collection...

Gucci Menswear

The Gucci man is just as sexy as the Gucci woman. The Gucci man is a very confident dresser and extremely self assured and it was most apt that the MC for the night was none other than one of our own, Simon Dallow (looking super sharp in a slim cut Gucci suit and shirt combo!)

This A/W 09 men's collection is influenced by the '80s, particularly, '80s new wave pop. There were skinny ties set against block, primary coloured shirts and slim, slim suits!

Details were in the hints of leopard (very '80s) checkerboard trims, brothel creeper two-toned shoes and lurex, shiny kelly green and maroon jacquard fabrics. These guys were rockstars!

Fashion for a good cause

Fashion isn't always frivolous you know!

One half of Style Blog (Michiko) was asked to participate in a photographic exhibition and auction to launch a Samsung Ultra touch mobile phone and raise funds for Youthline, a charity dedicated to supporting young people to achieve their potential.

The exhibition, to be held at Zambesi's new store in Newmarket, will feature photos I've snapped. I'm in good company, other local names such as Otis Frizzell, Taika Waititi, Madeleine Sami, Anna Fitzpatrick and Marissa Findlay are all participating in the charity exhibition too.

The images are supposed to represent a pictorial diary of our lives and capture and document what we have going on at the moment and what our perceptions of the world are.

It's been such a fun experience and check out some of the photography you can bid for HERE and help raise lots of money for a good cause!

Here are some pics from Madeleine Sami and Marissa Findlay!
