Fans demand refunds as Campbell exits

The Rhinestone Cowboy rode into town but failed to fire a shot on Saturday night, leaving a sour note for some fans.
 
Many stormed out of country music star Glen Campbell's Rotorua concert after the singer lost his voice.

Campbell and his band slipped out of the country quietly on Sunday afternoon, cancelling his Wellington show.  He played Auckland on Friday.

The Rhinestone Cowboy denied he was feeling a little ropey as ONE News lassoed him heading for the exit at the airport, and said he was feeling fine.

Laryngitis denied a Rotorua crowd of 4,000 the golden country voice they had come to hear. He played while his daughters sang.

For Ray Barton and wife Pat, their 14th wedding anniversary turned to mud.

Ray says concert organisers shouldn't have been selling tickets if the star was ill.

"They were still selling tickets at seven o'clock and there were plenty of people behind us buying tickets. They must have known by then they were in trouble," says Ray.

Ray says he and about 200 others walked out of the concert.

They had come all the way from Kawerau to hear Campbell sing and they want the $95 tickets refunded.

"There was no show. There's no show without Glen," says Ray.

Ray has read the small print on the back of the tickets, making it clear if the Australian promoter varies the line-up there's no refund. 

So ONE News asked Campbell what the changes of a refund are.

"It is a good question. I don't know 'cause my daughters performed, everybody else did and I did too. I didn't sing," Campbell replies.

And by the time he gets to Brisbane, we'll still be wondering.

His promoter is looking into it but it'll be Monday before he makes a call.
 
However, Ticketek says it is refunding all tickets sold to Campbell's last show scheduled for Wellington's Michael Fowler Centre.
