He's almost 50 years of age, but Hollywood star Hugh Grant proved he's still got what it takes with the ladies as he walked the red carpet for the Australian premiere of his new romantic comedy.

About 1,500 fans flocked to George Street in Sydney to catch a glimpse of the British star as he stepped out in a sharp black suit and white shirt for his latest flick - Did You Hear About The Morgans.

Grant spent about half an hour signing autographs and talking to young fans, with some crying and many yelling out "we love you Hugh".

The actor blushed as one fan screamed out: "Hugh, I want your baby ... I really do".

Grant, who arrived in the country on Monday and will leave on Wednesday, said he'd been having a great time in Sydney and had been enjoying playing golf.

He said he was thrilled with the reception.

"It's lovely, really welcoming and nice," Grant said.

"I really do like Sydney."

Grant co-stars with Sex and The City star Sarah Jessica Parker in the film about a high flying estranged New York couple who witness a murder and are put in witness protection in a small town.

Grant said his objective with films was to entertain and he loved making the movie.

"I've not been very adventurous in my choices in terms of range but I do just try and make films that are entertaining. That's my top priority," Grant said.

"I think the script was funny, made me laugh.

"I thought it was touching, romantic and working with Sarah Jessica, my second time, I just love her. I know people say that about their co-star, but I do."

Grant, whose previous hit films include Four Weddings and A Funeral, About A Boy, and Bridget Jones' Diary, said he was considering another couple of movie projects but didn't want to give anything away.

"I'm flirting with a couple of things. More than flirting - heavy petting," he laughed.
