One of the best-loved faces of the long-running British soap, Coronation Street, has died.
Bill Tarmey, who played loveable rogue Jack Duckworth has died in Tenerife at the aged 71.
Tarmey left Coronation Street two and a half years ago to spend more time with his family after 30 years playing the role.
He had been a life-long smoker and had ongoing health problems, but Tarmey's family said his death was peaceful.
His family asked for privacy while "they grieve for a wonderful husband, father and brother."
A statement from Coronation Street said: "The cast, crew and production team at Coronation Street are devastated to hear of Bill's death.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Bill's wife and soulmate Ali and their family at this very sad time."
