The now infamous error on last night's final of Australia's Next Top Model has revived memories of a similar incident in New Zealand.
Host Sarah Murdoch last night had to make an awkward apology live on air after she wrongly announced Sydney girl Kelsey Martinovich as the series winner.
The precedent for the bungle was set by Peter Sinclair at the 1984 Miss New Zealand contest, when he wrongly announced that the winner of the pageant was a runner-up.
He handled the mistake with much more aplomb than Murdoch did last night, by going on to say: "And now, ladies and gentlemen, I have a most embarrassing task to perform."
Sinclair proceeded to read out a correct order of results.
