Journeys in National Parks
For the first time on DVD comes
Journeys in National
Parks presented by Peter Hayden. Made in 1987 by the
acclaimed producers of the Wild South series this original
television series tells the story of five of New Zealand's great
National Parks. Our National Parks contain much of the country's
wildest landscapes, unchanging and unaffected by the many people
who have passed
through over the years. Peter Hayden's companions guide him through
the parks and share their stories with him.
TONGARIRO TE MAUNGA
Gifted to the nation a century ago, Peter explores
Tongariro's volcanoes and unique wilderness.
WESTLAND AORAKI
Peter follows the west winds through Westland's coastal
forests, over the Southern Alps and descends the Tasman Glacier to
the eastern dry lands.
FIORDLAND
Peter follows in the footsteps of Captain Cook's
naturalist and attempts to trace the trail used by Takiwai
(greenstone) carriers in centuries past.
TE UREWERA
In this episode the Tuhoe share their knowledge and
stories of their ancestral land within the park with Peter.
HAURAKI GULF
New Zealand's first maritime park sits on Auckland's
front doorstep - which causes Peter to investigate the issues of
preservation vs. use of our protected spaces.
