The David Bain retrial has reached the two month mark with the prosecution nearing the end of their case.

Last week they called a series of family members and friends who knew David Bain around the time his family were murdered.

David came  face to face in court with an old friend who is now a witness for the prosecution.

The friend recalls a premonition David had just days before his family were murdered when he said he thought something horrible was going to happen.

After the murders the pair talked about what happened. The witness said he asked David if this was the something horrible that he had seen and what they had spoken about on the Tuesday. The witness said David reacted very strongly, holding his stomach. "He [David] was really upset, sort of dry sobbing," the witness told the court.

Another witness, who David dated before the murders, says they talked about who killed the family. She says David said that if it was his father he could never forgive him. She told the court she interrupted David when he began to talk about himself, saying: "David you could never do that."

Bain family members were also called to the stand, remembering the funeral for five people and recalling conversations with David in the days after the murders.

David's aunt said he talked about the fact that he hated his father, that he wasn't accepting, that they didn't want him there, but it was his family and it was his house and he was staying.

Robin Bain's younger brother also gave evidence. Michael Bain said he visited his nephew in prison and directly asked David: Did you do it? Michael Bain said David did not give a clear answer.

"The words that he used, from my memory, were 'I've told my side of it to the police and I'll stick to that'," Michael Bain said.

More friends and family of David Bain are expected to give evidence before the Crown wraps up its case.
