The clothing David Bain was wearing on the day his family was murdered had blood from his younger brother on it.

ESR scientist Sally-Ann Harbison told the court David's shorts, t-shirt and one sock were tested after blood had been found on them.

Harbison has been giving evidence about the DNA analysis she carried out on the blood found on David's clothing and other items found in the Bain house.

David Bain denies murdering his parents and three siblings at the family home in Dunedin in June 1994.

The Crown alleges David got blood on his clothes in a violent struggle with his younger brother Stephen. A pair of blood stained gloves were also found in the 14-year-old's room.

Harbison told the court the gloves returned full DNA profile for Stephen and four of 10 samples from the murder weapon also contained Stephen's DNA.

The defence claims Robin Bain murdered his family but blood tested on his clothes contained only DNA that was his, or likely to have been his.

ESR scientist Douglas Elliot has also given evidence about the blood he detected on various items found in the Bain house. He also detailed the blood found on the clothes David Bain was wearing.

The retrial resumed on Friday morning after a juror fell ill, causing an early finish on Thursday.

The defence will start its case soon with the prosecution expected to finish next week.
