It has been a long road for the defence in the David Bain trial, culminating in an intense battle in court.
Their case argued the police investigation was bungled, Crown witnesses were inept and David's father Robin Bain had the motive.
The seven women and five men selected as jurors listened to 12 weeks of evidence. They heard David Bain's 111 call and saw the original police video showing where each body was found.
Maintaining David's innocence, the defence argued the original police investigation didn't involve basic tests or followed procedures.
They argued valuable evidence was lost when the house was burnt down so soon after the murders and accused the officer in charge of the scene of planting evidence to firm up the case against David.
The defence has always said Robin Bain was the murderer, shooting his family, then himself.
They painted a picture of a man depressed, cast out by his family, about to be exposed for an incestuous relationship with his daughter Laniet. Evidence relating to incest was ruled inadmissible at the first trial. After numerous court battles, this jury got to hear it.
Overseas experts cast doubt on the forensic evidence, saying blood on David Bain's clothes got there accidentally, that prints on the rifle had been there for months, and were not in blood.
Fifteen years after the murders, a lot of evidence is still hotly disputed. However, David Bain has finally cleared his name.
