Dateline
Dateline is Australia's longest-running international current affairs program and boasts a team of multi award-winning video journalists who scour the globe for the stories and interviews destined to influence how Australians see the world and their place in it.
Video Journalism
In 2000, Dateline took the traditional way of producing TV current affairs and turned it on its head.
Journalists who previously travelled with a cameraman and sound recordist began to travel alone.
They carried small, lightweight cameras, minimal sound and lighting equipment, and were responsible for both reporting and filming their stories.
The video journalists (VJs, as they became known) found they were able to gain access to people and places that conventional camera crews could not.
Each VJ brings their unique style of reporting and filming to
Dateline. They also take risks to bring audiences the stories that
matter.
They're unscripted, adventurous and refuse to follow the
pack.
The result is a current affairs program that's very revealing in
nature, offering stories that are of global importance yet filmed
in an up-close-and-personal way, often capturing the talent
off-guard.
