Geraldine Brophy
Geraldine Brophy is one of New Zealand's leading actors, with an
award-winning career that has spanned theatre, film and
television.
Born to Irish parents in Birmingham, England, Geraldine came to New
Zealand in 1972. In 1983 she was offered her first professional
role at the Centrepoint Theatre in Palmerston North. In her
subsequent 25 years in the industry she has played more than 150
roles on stage and television.
Best known to audiences for her role as Moira the receptionist on
Shortland Street, she has also appeared in
numerous television shows including Time Hackers; Welcome To
Paradise; Outrageous Fortune; Maddigan;s Quest; Insider's Guide To
Love; Seven Periods with Mr Gormsby; Serial Killers; and Spin
Doctors.
Amongst a string of awards, Geraldine won the 1998 New Zealand Film
and Television Best Actress award for her lead role in Home Movie,
and again at the 2008 Qantas Film and Television Awards, for her
lead role in Second-Hand Wedding.
On the big screen, she has also been seen in the films In My
Father's Den, King Kong, The Waterhorse, Underworld Three, and has
just completed filming the Ian Mune feature Life's A Riot, due for
release in 2009.
Writing plays since 2003, her first work The Viagra Monologues
opened to critical acclaim in Auckland and Wellington. She has
had successful seasons with her plays, Mary's Gospel; Confessions
Of A Chocoholic ; Real Estate; The Paradise Package and Meat.
Geraldine lives in Petone, Wellington with her husband and two
daughters.
